Kyle and I started our recreational rucking trips last year, as it was something he had been passionate about facilitating and wanted to include veterans, family members and friends. Together we've facilitated around four community rucks so far and each time we find more connection, reflection, and the opportunity to raise awareness for The Siotha Project. Our trips support two of our three focus areas: healthy aging and suicide awareness and prevention.
The research shows that regular, moderate activity like rucking supports physical health, mobility, and mental resilience, all important components of healthy aging. Interestingly enough, moving together in community also provides social support, which is a protective factor for mental health and can help prevent isolation and suicide risk.
Outside our rucks, we also offer 1:1 coaching, group workshops, classes and sessions. Depending on the area of focus, the creative modalities we use include yoga-as-therapy, visual arts, music-as-therapy, emotional well-being sessions, and more.
Our healthy aging area spans across all ages and for seniors, we are able to work with VA Centers, Assisted Living Centers, Hospice Care, hospitals, and wellness centers. We can also help build wellness and veteran integration programs for companies/organizations.
Overall, we've come a long way since our first ruck in 2024, and I'm grateful for each step. These offerings and developments embody all things that Kyle and I are passionate about, and giving back to the veteran community make them even better.
Don't hesitate to reach out with any questions around our project, especially if you know a person or place where our offerings may be helpful. And make sure to stay up to date with our upcoming rucks and events through social media channels: @thesiothaproject on Instagram, Facebook, and YouTube (links below).
Thanks again and hope to see you soon!
Jenn
